My husband and I picked such a beautiful time of year to get married. Looking back at our wedding weekend five years ago, it was a wild one when it came to the forecast. I can recall the weather on our rehearsal night... weather any bride would pray passes quickly. Our ceremony was to be outside, and that it was. But the weather following our rehearsal was gloomy - there was a torrential downpour with blustery conditions that warranted a tornado warning once we arrived back to the hotel. One night's sleep later, we managed to awake to absolutely beautiful conditions - picture perfect. A big thank you to Janet Sena at Pixology for capturing our special day. :)
Fast forward five years later, we decided to plan a little getaway to the Finger Lakes, a place I've wanted to visit for a while. I found the perfect little cottage on AirBNB that made our stay a comfortable and relaxing one. We were able to hike, bike, sip and relax for a few days while Mimi and Pappy took care of our little guy. We hiked around Conklin's Gully, biked on the Keuka Outlet Trail, sipped and ate our way through the wineries surrounding Keuka Lake and the towns of both Penn Yan and Hammondsport, and finished our trip with a visit to Watkin's Glen.
Below are a few photos from Conklin's Gully. What I did not capture was the actual gully itself, which is deeply appalling. We saw it from above, and I could not bare to watch hubs look down at it. We hiked around the gully for almost 8 miles. You can see in the photos that hubs wore a 45 lb. ruck for the hike. Long story short, we were pooped by the time we returned to the truck, so we opted to head home rather than go see the gully from the bottom.
Here are a few photos from our cottage. It was the cutest little place, perfect for the two of us. Our host did a wonderful job decorating and making it a comfortable and beautiful place to stay while escaping reality for a few days.
And last, but not least - Watkin's Glen. We timed our visit perfectly, as it had rained the day prior. During our hike at Conklin's Gully, the falls we did come across were dry. Not a dry spot here - I'll let the photos speak for themselves!
It's safe to say my butt is sore from all the hiking and biking, my belly is full and my heart is happy. Until the next getaway... now back to snuggles with my little man!
